PEMA in Nigeria – Swiss Technology for Sustainable Agriculture in Africa
The Nigeria project demonstrates how PEMA Innotech Swiss AG is establishing sustainable Swiss technology in a challenging market in collaboration with a local partner—from regulatory approval to field application. Since 2019, the company has worked with AGRICUNIA LTD to develop a practical model for technology development, knowledge transfer, local production, and market launch.
For future distribution partners, Nigeria serves as a robust proof of concept: PEMA combines proven technology, regulatory expertise, practical application knowledge, and strong execution capabilities to develop new markets.
With a population of approximately 230 million (2024), Nigeria is by far the most populous country in Africa and the sixth most populous country in the world.
Nigeria, along with South Africa and Egypt, is one of Africa’s largest economies. It is considered an emerging market by the World Bank.

A flagship project of strategic importance
Nigeria is one of Africa’s most important agricultural markets and has high standards regarding quality, regulatory approval, local availability, and application practices. PEMA addresses these requirements with a water-based technology platform for effective, more environmentally friendly, and locally implementable solutions.
PEMA supports AGRICUNIA by providing semi-finished goods, technical expertise, a commitment to quality, process support, and long-term technology transfer.
The result is a scalable model that combines Swiss innovation with local value creation—relevant for additional markets and new distribution partners.

What Has Already Been Achieved
- Local production and bottling infrastructure established
- Regulatory framework, including NAFDAC approvals, established
- 12 local employees trained and hired
- Over 200,000 farmers educated on sustainable use
Since AGRICUNIA LTD was founded in 2020, a local production and bottling facility has been established in Nigeria. Since 2023, AGRICUNIA has held NAFDAC approvals as well as import, production, and GMP licenses—key prerequisites for the professional local manufacturing and market launch of PEMA technology.
Local expertise was also developed: 12 employees were trained, educated, and hired. As a result, the technology transfer is now firmly established locally in terms of both personnel and operations.
In addition, more than 200,000 farmers were educated about sustainable agriculture, safe crop protection, and responsible use of pesticides—an important factor for acceptance and market relevance.
