Greenhouse whiteflies infest cultivated and ornamental plants in large numbers and suck the plant sap and thus nutrients from the leaves (underside of the leaves) with their proboscises. This disturbs the development of the plant, leaves fall off, but the plant is rarely completely destroyed. However, if plant viruses are transmitted by the greenhouse whitefly when it bites into the leaves, considerable damage is the result.
Greenhouse whiteflies are not disease vectors for humans.
