Annoying Pests
Are usually not pests, but their presence is perceived as unpleasant, annoying and disturbing because they like to stay in human surroundings. For humans, annoying pests are not dangerous and usually do not cause any harm. However, their sight and smell alone can be disgusting, frightening and annoying.
Typical pests are woodlice, silverfish, flies (houseflies, fruit flies), earwigs, wasps, spiders of all kinds and ants. Pests of livestock and pets are horseflies, mosquitoes and flies.
If annoying pests occur in large populations, they can transfer germs to food and become pests in hygienically critical situations. Silverfish in a flat are annoying pests, but in a hospital they are health pests. In Central Europe, the widespread head louse in schools and kindergartens is "ONLY" a nuisance and not a health pest according to the Infection Protection Act, because they do not normally transmit diseases.
An infestation of head lice in tropical and subtropical populations is not only a nuisance, but can also have health consequences.
